From the beginning I’ve led a Gemini kind of life, meaning I’ve had the variety and combination of safety and danger that most born under the sign of The Twins long for. |
|
The pin on the map shows where I’ve lived for 46 years. Born and partially raised in a large city (Milwaukee) until I was 12 satisfied the “city mouse” side of me (museums, shopping at Boston Store, Gimbles’, Schuster’s, movies and stage shows). If you’ve ever seen the movie, “A Christmas Story,” you’ll understand the type of house and atmosphere of my childhood — especially the scenes at the Christmas parade and inside the store when Ralphie and his brother visit Santa. |
|
After we moved to the country – Moose Lake – the swimming in the summer, ice skating in the winter, riding my blue Schwinn all over the place (mostly alone except when going to school) roaming the apple orchard, the woods and the marsh/swamp areas behind our house, attending an honest-to-God two-room school house for seventh and eighth grades, using a crank-style phone (our ring was 2 longs and 4 shorts) instead of the black receiver pick-up-and-ask-the-operator-to-connect-you kind (our number on 61st Street was Hopkins 3412; don’t ask me why I remember the phone numbers) satisfied my need to explore and play pioneer woman in as much wilderness as I could find. |
|
My need for travel has been partially satisfied by my visits to 37 of the 50 states, Washington D.C., Mexico, Canada, England, Scotland, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain and Africa, using planes, trains, automobiles, ships, ferries, hydrofoil and a camel (only for a bit of a walk-around on this fellow, but still . . .). There’s so much more I want to either revisit, or see for the first time. Maybe, if I live to be 150 and my health holds out . . .
I love: music, stage plays (mostly musicals, especially the Broadway kind), books (Dickens to Rowling and everything in between, before and aft), movies (from horror to “Harry Potter,” and everything in between, before and aft), dancing, flowers (gardenias my favorite), people (from friends to some strangers), pets (first dog Cookie, then Lady, my big, black Great Dane Molly, Babe, Shawna; first cat Missy, then PITA [Pete], D.C., J.R., Fancy, Bud and Matilda), sunsets, foods (ethnic and otherwise – even Haggis), laughing, sometimes crying (as long as it’s for happy), writing, knitting, crafting, — none of this is in order you understand.
This is enough for me now. Let’s move onto photo and stories so you can “get to know me better man” (line from Dickens “Christmas Carol”—one of my favorite authors).

Well, I see you’ve found me. C’mon in. Coffee? I take mine neat (no cream, sugar, flavorings); you? I totally love coffee — it makes life so pleasant, no matter what you find yourself doing. I’ll wait while you get yours. |

My name’s on the top of the page, so I don’t have to introduce myself. The flowered cane (bloomincane.com, get it?) changes to match the seasons or the holidays and in reality it keeps me upright when I walk. I’ll tell you now so you won’t have to guess at it: I’m a writer. I’ve written lots of short stories, but my first novel for young adults, “Moochi’s Mariachis” has just been published. |
